NINE BOXES NINE ARTISTS NINE ON SEVEN
The number nine has a special significance in Chinese society. Odd numbers denote masculinity or Yang. Nine, as the last single digit odd number, holds the title as supreme or ultimate masculine. Thus, becoming a symbol of the supreme sovereignity of the Emperor. The number was (and still is) an ever pervasive element througout the empire. Featuring prominently in it's palatial designs, structures, courtyards, number of types of dragons, number of dishes served at banquets and even the number of palace gate studs.
